I am sure we have all seen “that” woman at some point in our lives. The woman who always looks well put together (even on her worst days) and never fails to turn heads whenever she walks into a room. She’s elegant, yet somehow fierce at the same time. Fortunately, becoming that elegant, classy woman isn’t as hard or as expensive as it seems. Today’s post provides some amazingly simple ways to look elegant.
1. Keep Your Makeup Simple
One of the easiest ways to look elegant is to add a bit of makeup. It is best to go for a makeup look that highlights (rather than covers) your best features and brings out your natural beauty. In essence, elegant makeup looks should bring out the attractive features that make you unique. For example, if you have naturally full eyebrows, add some tinted brow gel to darken, shape, and tame your brows.
When it comes to creating a flawless face, make sure that your foundation matches your skin tone and undertone and is compatible with your skin type (dry, oily, combination, mature, etc.). If you are lost when it comes to foundation matching, take a trip to Sephora or Ulta for guidance!
In addition, balance is key when it comes to simple makeup looks. If you love a bold red lip or dramatic eyes, keep the rest of your makeup look minimal. If you happen to be a false lashes or lash extensions lover, opt for a pair that are natural and not too over the top.
2. Pull Your Hair Back
Without a doubt, sleek buns, chignons, and low pony-tails are elegant hairstyles that will never go out of style. Updos are great because they can be styled in a variety of ways to suit your personality and look. In addition, updos work for a variety of hair textures – ranging from straight to curly. Pulling your hair back is a foolproof way to look elegant, especially when in a rush. By pulling your hair away from your face, you can create a sleek, no-fuss look that keeps everything neatly together and tames flyaways.
Have you ever had a bad hair day or felt too exhausted to deal with washing your hair? Pulling your hair back is also an easy way to deal with those bad hair days or when your hair is in tragic need of washing. Your updo will hide all of your dirty hair secrets!

3. Maintain Your Hair And Nails
Whether your hair is short, long, color-treated, weaved, relaxed, permed, or natural – rock it in any way that makes you content! Regardless of however you decide to style your hair, be sure to make an effort to maintain it and keep it as healthy as possible. One of the simplest ways to maintain your hair, regardless of hair texture, is to get regular trims. Trimming your hair can improve the overall appearance of your hair and get rid of those pesky split ends! In addition, if you regularly dye or add heat to your hair, try using hair masks or protein treatments to keep it strong.
When it comes to having elegant nails, keep them simple and keep them clean. Although long nails are trendy and fun, they are not always the most elegant. Opt for nails of short to medium length with an oval or almond shape. Oval or almond-shaped nails are nice because they can make your hands and fingers look slimmer. In regards to nail polish color, go for nudes, pinks, and reds that flatter your skin tone. Nude polish is great for nails because chipping is not as obvious as bold colors!
4. Iron Out Those Wrinkles
The way that clothing material looks on your body can greatly impact your overall presentation. In order to look more elegant, take the time to make sure that your clothing is neatly pressed and doesn’t have any noticeable flaws (stains, rips, lint, etc.). If you don’t want to take your clothing to the cleaners, invest in a good iron, steamer, and lint roller to keep your clothing looking neat!
5. Opt For A Turtleneck Or A White Button Down
Are you a minimalist or lazy when it comes to fashion? One of the simplest ways to look elegant and chic is to wear a turtleneck or a white button-down shirt. Turtlenecks and white button-downs are great because of their versatility – they can be stressed down with jeans or dressed up with a satin slip skirt for a night out on the town. Turtlenecks and white button-downs can also come in a variety of styles and materials to suit your personality and look.
6. When In Doubt, Wear All Black
Here’s my motto when I have no idea what to wear: “When in doubt, wear all black.” Without a doubt, all-black outfits are effortlessly stylish! Along with being chic and elegant, black is slimming, complements all skin tones, and looks great with all hair colors. Try an all-black look the next time you are stuck on what to wear to brunch, the grocery store, or drinks with friends!
7. Approach Jewelry With Minimalism
When it comes to looking elegant, approach jewelry with minimalism. When investing in jewelry pieces, go for dainty, timeless pieces that can be worn for years and passed on for generations. Elegant jewelry options include pearls, diamond studs, dainty gold necklaces, small vintage pieces, small gold hoops, diamond or gold tennis bracelets, and birthstones. One of my favorite things about timeless jewelry pieces is they can go with everything in your wardrobe!
8. Check Your Posture
When I was sixteen, my mother made me attend etiquette school. Frankly, I despised it at the time! Now that I am older, I greatly appreciate the experience because it taught me the importance of good posture. One of the key aspects of looking elegant is having good posture. Have you ever seen an elegant woman walking with her head down and with slouched shoulders? I highly doubt it!
To appear more elegant, walk confidently with your shoulders back and with your eyes looking forward. Strut your stuff, girl!
9. Add A Small Heel
Your shoe choice can definitely shape your overall look and outfit. Fortunately, you don’t have to walk around in stilettos to make a statement. Wearing a small heel, especially a block heel, can elevate any look and make you look elegant. The great thing about block heels is that they are easy to walk in and can sometimes be more comfortable than flats. In the fall and winter, invest in a good pair of block-heeled booties to add flair to your winter outfits.
10. Invest In A Structured, Long Coat
Long structured coats are classic, elegant, and can be worn with anything. Whether wool or trench, structured coats are a great investment because of their longevity. Opt for a long, structured coat in black or camel to complement everything in your closet! When purchasing a structured coat, make sure that the coat is well-tailored and flatters your body and height.
11. Wear the Proper Undergarments
Did you know that nearly 80% of women are currently wearing the wrong bra size? Isn’t that crazy!? Your undergarments can greatly influence how your clothes look. If you are unsure about your bra size or think your bra size has changed, try getting fitted at Victoria’s Secret or other lingerie stores.
In addition to wearing the right bra size, make sure that the style and color of your undergarments complement your outfit. For example – if you are wearing a strapless number, opt for a strapless bra rather than a T-shirt bra, as the straps will ruin the entire look!
12. Smile More
I know, I know. I don’t like when people (especially men) tell me to smile either. But let’s be honest here – smiling definitely helps in social situations! There is something about a smile that can make a woman look more approachable, elegant, warm, and friendly. When you don’t have your mask on or when you are on your next Zoom call, try smiling. You never know what kind of positive impact you may have on the person receiving it!
I hope that these tips help you amp up your elegance game!
