Over the past year, I have grown to appreciate and value self-care. As women, it’s important to take a bit of time to escape from everything and cater to our own health and well-being. I wanted to share a list of 100 simple self-care activities to enhance your day.
What is Self-Care
Self-care is a term that has been thrown around a lot during the pandemic. But what exactly does this term mean and how can you benefit from it? Self-care means taking time to create and foster a healthy relationship with yourself. In addition, self-care means intentionally taking time to make yourself a priority and making an effort to sustain it. Self-care involves engaging in activities that enrich your life, your day, and your overall well-being. Every woman deserves to care about themselves. You should never feel guilty about caring for yourself.
In addition, self-care can mean different things for different people. Self-care involves much more than just “pampering” yourself or going to the spa. The beauty of self-care is that you get to define and approach how to connect with yourself. For one person, self-care may include Netflix and red wine. For another, self-care may be running a 5K three times a week. In essence, there is no one-size-fits-all approach to self-care.
What Are The Benefits Of Self-Care?
1. Increases Productivity
Taking the time to engage in self-care can increase your overall productivity throughout the day. Self-care can recenter you, enhance your clarity, and energize you to keep going throughout the day.
2. Self-Care Can Help Your Immune System
Engaging in exercise, mindfulness, and other self-care activities can activate the Parasympathetic Nervous System (PNS). When you activate the PNS, you give your body the opportunity to decompress and escape from your hectic day. By incorporating self-care into your daily routine, you can give your body a chance to build and strengthen its defenses against illnesses.
3. You Discover Yourself
Self-care helps you to find out more about yourself and what you love to do. Have you ever thought about what brings you joy? Without a doubt, self-care helps us to find or rediscover that joy. As busy adults, it’s easy to get stuck in a daily routine that leaves very little room for happiness. Reconnecting with yourself and what brings you joy can enhance your overall well-being and mental health.
4. The People Around You Will Be Thankful
There is a tendency to believe that self-care is selfish. This is not the case at all! Self-care will not only enrich your life but will also inspire and help those around you. Your significant other, kids, friends, and even pets will appreciate your happy mood and confidence. In addition, self-care gives you more energy to care for others. How can you adequately care for others when you are physically or mentally exhausted and unhappy? Self-care helps you find balance and reenergizes you to continue caring for your loved ones.
5. You will Feel Better
Without a doubt, self-care will help you feel better and improve your self-compassion. Activities such as listening to your favorite song, petting your dog, or painting your nails can make you not only feel better physically but also mentally. In addition, self-care allows us to give ourselves grace and love even when we fail or feel inadequate.
