Don’t worry, I’ve got you. I’m here to help you obtain and maintain the softest, most luscious lips ever behind that mask. I’ve provided some tips and an easy DIY lip scrub to help you combat dryness due to masks, the weather, and drying lip products.
Why You Should Exfoliate Your Lips
Many of us take the time to exfoliate our faces and bodies to achieve and maintain silky skin. Unfortunately, exfoliating our lips is something that many of us forget to do! However, it’s super important to incorporate lip exfoliation into your weekly beauty routine.
Without a doubt, our lips get a lot of wear and tear. We eat, we drink, we kiss, we talk, we cough, and we apply lipstick and lip glosses. When you actually think about it, our lips are super important and go way beyond just vanity. Here are some reasons why you should exfoliate your lips today:
1. Exfoliating Gets Rid of Dead Skin
Exfoliating helps get rid of dead skin that has accumulated on your lips. This will make your lips softer, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, and make them appear much healthier and luscious. As women, many of us wear lipsticks and lip glosses that contain various chemical ingredients. Thus, exfoliation helps to create a smooth canvas, free of dead skin and chemicals.
2. Alleviates Dryness
One of my favorite things about exfoliating my lips is that it helps to provide and maintain moisturized lips. Many lip exfoliants, whether homemade or store-bought, contain moisturizing ingredients such as honey, sugar, and oils to combat dryness.
3. Makes For Better Lipstick and Lip Gloss Application
Regularly exfoliating your lips will help your lipstick and lip gloss apply smoother and look better. Sometimes lipstick, especially matte lipstick, can highlight dry patches and fine lines on your lips. Exfoliating will help you achieve smoother lips for an even prettier lipstick look.
4. Your Significant Other Will Appreciate It
Your significant other, future significant other, and maybe even your pet may appreciate your ultra-smooth, exfoliated lips. I have never heard of anyone wanting to kiss crusty, hard lips!
5. Helps Prevent Cold Sores
Dry, cracked lips make your lips more vulnerable to cold sores around your mouth. Exfoliating your lips helps to moisturize your lips and prevent cold sores.
How to Exfoliate Your Lips
Exfoliating your lips isn’t a complicated process. It’s actually one of my favorite parts of my beauty routine. You should exfoliate your lips 2-3 times a week. Unfortunately, over-exfoliation can leave your lips feeling raw and uncomfortable. Before applying the lip scrub, lightly wet your lips. You should then apply the lip scrub to your lips in gentle circular motions for about a minute. After gently scrubbing, rinse the scrub off with cool water. Finish your process off with a lip balm to help seal in hydration and moisture. If you anticipate wearing lipstick, I recommend exfoliating your lips prior to applying lipstick for the perfect lipstick application.
