Jump to recipeHey, ladies! Our kitchens are filled with so many great items for skincare DIYS. Did you know that honey, especially raw honey, offers amazing skincare benefits? Honey can be great for the skin due to its anti-aging and antibacterial properties. In fact, the iconic beauty, Cleopatra, used raw honey as part of her beauty routine to maintain youthful skin. Below, you can learn why and how to use honey as a natural anti-aging treatment.
5 Reasons To Use Honey As A Natural Anti-Aging Treatment
1. Honey Helps Maintain Moisture
If you have dry skin like myself, you will definitely appreciate honey’s moisturizing benefits. Honey is known for being a humectant. This means that honey helps your skin to not only absorb, but maintain moisture. If you have dry skin, honey can serve as a natural moisturizer. Once applied to the skin, honey can soften your skin and deeply penetrate hydration to the underlying skin layers.
Have oily skin? Don’t worry. Honey can help rebuild and maintain the moisture level in your skin without making the skin too oily.
2. Anti-Aging Properties
Along with being a natural humectant, honey offers natural antioxidants that can help reverse signs of aging. Honey can minimize the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines on the face.
Moreover, honey provides the skin with just enough nourishment to help maintain healthy and supple skin, repair and fade scars, and diminish fine lines and wrinkles. Apply honey to your face to get your glow on and improve your skins elasticity!
3. Cleanses Pores, Removes Blackheads, and Lightly Exfoliates
Honey contains antioxidants, antiseptics, antibacterial, and moisturizing properties that help deeply penetrate the skin and remove impurities from the pores. As a pore cleansing agent, honey moisturizes and does not negatively impact the skin’s pH balance. Honey’s ability to cleanse the skin can prevent blemishes such as blackheads.
4. Honey Helps Treat Acne
If you have sensitive skin, honey is a great way to combat acne. Honey contains anti-inflammatory benefits that help remove excess oil from the skin’s surface. When applied regularly, it can balance out the bacteria in your skin.
Raw honey also contains antibacterial properties that aid in treating redness and inflammation. Honey has natural properties that help soothe skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.
5. Honey Heals
Without a doubt, honey has some amazingly unique properties. Scientists have highlighted over the years that honey has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties that have been proven to heal wounds and scars. Not only does honey moisturize your skin, but it also makes scars look less noticeable over time.
Have an insect bite? Feel free to apply a bit of honey to your wound and then cover with a bandaid!
What Kind Of Honey Should You Use?
When using honey for skincare purposes, it is best to use manuka or raw honey. Raw or manuka honey are the best to use because other types of honey are heated and filtered during processing. Although heating and filtering honey extends the shelf life, it diminishes its flavor and properties. Thus, to get the most skincare benefits, opt for manuka or raw honey.
Tips For When Using Honey On Your Face
- Before applying honey to your face, do a spot test to make sure you don’t have any allergies.
- Begin using honey gradually. When first using honey on your face, use it 1-2 times a week.
- Putting honey on your face can get a bit messy, but don’t worry, you don’t have to keep it on for very long. 10-20 minutes should be sufficient enough time!
- Apply honey to freshly washed skin to reap the most benefits.
